For Teacher Appreciation week, I would like to share about Dr. Halee Porter, an extraordinary hospitality teacher at Houston ISD whom I admire. Faced with no in-person internships during the pandemic, she transformed her curriculum by providing simulation experiences (thanks, Knowledge Matters!). She implemented the KM hotel and restaurant simulations, which not only offered practical learning opportunities but also mirrored real-world scenarios, preparing her students for what to expect in the industry. Post-pandemic, Dr. Porter continues to use the simulations to expose her juniors to these environments prior to an in-person internship, setting them up for success. Her dedication to her students’ growth is amazing!
